Warm & Homey Classic Shepherd’s Pie
Who doesn't love a delicious, warm, and homey meal (especially in the Winter)? In this recipe, we cooked up a warm and savoury Shepherd’s pie. A mixture of soft potatoes, healthy vegetables and hearty ground beef. For this recipe, we used a great glass baking dish large enough to feed the entire family - we love to share!
Ingredients:
- Yukon gold potatoes
- Ground beef
- Salt
- Pepper
- Olive oil
- Carrots
- Red wine
- White onion
- Tomato paste
- Worcestershire sauce
- Butter
Instructions:
- Start off with grabbing a large pot of cold water and bring to a rolling boil on the stovetop
- Dice your Yukon gold potatoes in cubes so that the potatoes can cook quicker
- Place your potatoes in the boiling hot water and also add in a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of salt
- Next, grab a separate large pan for the ground beef and get it hot and drizzle with olive oil
- Place your ground beef in the hot pan and begin to cook
- Once almost cooked, create a well in the centre of the pan (you can do this by making a hole in the centre of the pan by parting the food out of the way) and place your tomato paste in the pan
- Cook off the tomato paste and then mix the ground beef together
- Add in salt, pepper, carrots, a splash of red wine, white onion (diced), and two tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
- Cook until a thick mixture reveals itself and place to the side
- Grab your cooked potatoes and drain the hot water
- Drop in a couple knobs of butter to your potatoes and mash well, add in a pinch of salt and pepper for seasoning and a drizzle of olive oil
- Next, set your oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit and turn off your stovetop
Instructions (Layering):
- Grab a large glass baking dish
- Line the bottom of the dish with a generous amount of the ground beef mixture (we want equal levels of beef and potatoes)
- Next, match the top with the mixture of your creamy mashed potatoes
- Place in the oven for about one hour, or until golden brown
- Enjoy!
Feel free to also top your Shepherd’s pie with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese for an extra boost of flavour or drizzle some hot sauce if you’re feeling extra spicy!
